A question for you guys

So here's a delima.

Let's say you have limited funds, it looks like your fridge is on the verge of calling it quits and it's and you're going to need new tires soon (within the next three thousand miles).

Some things to consider:
  • eating out is expensive when you do it all the time (meaning the longer it takes to get the fridge the less money there is to spend on anything else
  • neither the fridge nor the freezer appear to be doing either of their jobs adequately- things are about to go down hill very fast
  • it takes you 6 to 8 weeks to go three thousand miles
  • it's spring going into summer in the greater Boston area, which means that there is oh so much rain and skid potential
  • getting both of these within three months of each other could mean you will be living off of top ramin for a while (it's not quite that bad, but why not make it interesting)

What do you get first? The fridge or the tires?

You have the landlord buy the fridge...and buy yourself new tires. Seriously he should be responsible for that. Have you talked to him about it?

He told me he wasn't buying the fridge when it goes. Maybe I can convince him to reconsider... or pretend I don't remember that from the very first day I met him. He also said I couldn't have cats. And I might not want cats, but I don't think he'd make me get rid of one if I got one.

Hmmm. Thanks, Natae!

Stef, wasn't the fridge there when you got there?? Is that part of the apartment? I would think that the landlord would HAVE to replace it. That's like saying the toilet's broken and it's not his problem.....BS

Since I'm the car guy... it's not safe to be driving on tires that are worn and used up. Tires are the most important part of your car since they are what holds you to the road.

If you are ona really tight budget and HAVE to buy the fridge... then go to a local tire place, or repair shop and ask about used tires. They might not look pretty, but they'll get the job done until you can afford new ones a few months down the road.

I did it back in the day when money was tight.

Oh, well they're not completely gone. Honestly, I had a mechanic look at them almost a month ago and he estimated I still have about 10 thousand miles on on the front ones, and I think I have about 8 thousand left. The back ones still have about 30 thousand miles. I'll just sepparate it out.

And with the fridge, I did ask around when I moved in and it seems like it's typical for a fridge to not be included with the apartment. Sad but true. If I do have to eat the cost I'll probably buy a used one and see if he'll go half with me.

Thanks for the suggestions, tho. I didn't think about used tires. Hmmm.
