So you know how it's the latest thing to give out cd's as a party favor at weddings? I'm not sure how much that happens here in the greater Boston area, but it's been the thing to do in California for quite a while. And of course Becky and Alex burned a cd for their party favor- they're music fans and have really good taste in music.
There's only one thing. Becky and Alex's cd has just about 21 songs on it and only 10 of them are in English. The bulk of the other-languaged songs are sung in Spanish, one or two is in French and did I hear one in Arabic?- or was that one in Spanish, too? Some of the songs are instrumentals, but the rest I can't sing along to (I don't mind humming along with the instrumentals). And while I know I shouldn't be so English-centric, it makes me just a little sad to listen to a cd and not be able to sing along to most of the songs.
Becky and Alex, if you read this know that I really do appreciate all the time and energy you put into making it. I promise I will listen to the cd thousands of times, trying to remember my two years of high school spanish and learn the love poetry that's in all those songs. And of course it's not about me at all. I'm just saying. Humming doesn't always do it for me, you know?

Am I stalking you?? Anyway - I already have a good start on a wedding CD thanks to you and your love song CD :) BTW I'd never heard of the wedding CD party favor idea but I love it! Thanks for the chat last night ~ xoxoxo
Well I'm glad I could provide some inspiration. =]
And you're not stalking me. You're doing what you promised and reading my blog. Thanks for doing that, byw. I like talking to you!
My friend did that for his wedding a few years ago. GREAT wedding favor that people will actually hold on to.
BTW Stef... great job on the posts :) Keep up the good work.
And if Nat's stalking you.. at you're loved :)))
Thanks for the props on the posts. It's good of you to check in.
Your post made me smile. Okay, so, not to be toooo anal or anything, but, yup, there are 21 songs total, 8 are in English, 3 instrumental, and 6 are in Spanish, but, nope, no Arabic. They're not all love poetry though. Take for instance one of the two Portuguese songs called "Mania de Peitão," which translates roughly as "Obsession with Big Breasts"... On second thought, I guess that's pretty poetic.
And so appropriate.
There is the one song, tho, that is very arabic-sounding.
And, speaking of anal, with 21 total songs, 8 English, 3 instrumental and 6 in Spanish, what are the other languages represented in the cd? That leaves 4 not accounted for.
Let's see... There are:
2 in Portuguese
1 (the title track) in French (although it's really more like 1.1 because one of the songs I had counted as Spanish, "Me Gustas Tú," actually alternates Spanish-French in the chorus)
1 in Bamana, a.k.a. Bambara.
I'm thinking the Arabic sounding one might be the Shakira song.
By the way, if you reeeeeally want to sing along, you can usually download the lyrics (and the translations) from the internet. That's what we often do. After all, we don't actually speak Bamana. That song is on the CD because we like it a lot, and it reminds us of our time in Mali. When we looked at the lyrics, we found out it was a love song, so it seemed a pretty good fit for our wedding CD, even though it actually has a bit of an unhappy ending.
To tell you the truth, every song on there has some reason to be there aside from the fact that one or both of us like it. When you're ready to be bored to tears, I'll be happy to tell you all about it in excruciating detail. :)
